happy friday (huntington beach edtn.)

Dudes, currently banging this out from Huntington Beach. Arrived late last night. So stoked to shoot some surfing this weekend. Actually about to make my way over to the beach in a few to get the lay of the land. Honestly though, I could be content just chilling on the lenai all weekend, given the view, haha. Have a great weekend!

happy friday

I can’t believe that this is the last weekend in July. This summer has gone by waaaaaayyyyy too quickly. I had a relatively productive week. I only missed one run (because of rain), and I think that I may be able to make it up tonight. Unlikely though, being that it is Friday. Hahaha. I included a couple of Photos from Wednesday eve. Seize sur Vignt had a party to preview their lineup for next spring/summer. My favorite image of the evening is actually the one above. I loved this nameless party guest’s hair. It is like, the picture perfect quintessential bob. She has awesome color, too. Anyway, a couple of images of the actually SSV clothing below. More over here.

One of my close friends moved back to NYC from Florence, this week. Getting stoked to hangout together this weekend. Other than that, hoping to keep it mellow and knock out some running. Have a great weekend!

happy friday

Not really a happy Friday at all, actually. It is dreary out. The weather, coupled with the news of the tragedy in Aurora CO last night has cast quite a gloomy shroud over this Friday. It’s days like this where you just kinda have to be grateful for those who are close to you. I thought it was appropriate to post  an image of my favorite Steve Powers (ESPO) prints, above. The sentiment there just kinda sums things up sometimes.

happy friday

Or should I say “stressful Friday.” I have so much to get done today before I jam to Alaska. I’m not going to bore anyone by putting a list on here. But trust me, it is a lot.

I’m so excited to see my sister and her fam in Alaska. It has been way too long. It will also be a very nice opportunity to have a protracted break from the grind.

Have a great weekend!

happy friday

Trixie (my bike) has been in the shop since last Friday, getting shod with some new rims. I was perpetually bending the rear rim (including one pinch flat, where I had to replace the tire) anytime that I would ride over any small deviation in surface smoothness. It was getting kind of ridiculous. So, I finally broke down and ordered a set of high profile (hipster) rims. I picked her up yesterday right after leaving the office and ended up riding everywhere I went yesterday evening (which was kind of a lot of places). First I hit the latest installation at the SoHo Agnés b. That is where I snapped the photo above (on Howard St.). Not really sure why I didn’t just bust out the real cam for that shot, being that it was slung over my back. So, you getz iPhone image. Sorry.

After Agnés, I went to the WV for a Nike release party. Obama was in town yesterday, and his motorcade actually passed right in front of the spot where the event was being held. So, getting around was like a video game of weaving in and out of cars/cops. It was actually kinda fun.

Tomorrow, I’m off to MD, bright and early to shoot some moto-x with Redbull. Sunday morning I’ll be running the Portugal day race in CP. Should be a banger. Have a great weekend.

happy friday

Happy Friday, I guess. Normally I really love the weekend. But, this weekend I’m struggling with a few items. Most of my friends are bouncing (home to visit their mothers, else to Costa Rica [else they live in Florence]). So there is that. Then there is the unbloggable stuff :/. Not unlike instagram, I [once loathed, but now] have apparently started to embrace emoticons. Mostly likely it is because all of my favorite ones involve commas and/or dollar signs. Money and tears– that’s all you need to make rap songs and emoticons.

In less lame news, I perused the private preview of the latest Opera Gallery exhibit on Thursday night (detail of ‘circulations of a linear lust’ by Augustine Kofie, above). Some of my fave artists were on display (including B*nksy). I also met Ron English, which was dope.

Finally: true love does exist. I realized that when I was going through the photos from last weekend. Look at the photo below by Jeni Bell. I gave her a quick crash course on how to use an SLR via the “focus/recompose” method of shooting. I think that it is pretty obvious by this photo that she only has eyes for one gent (the same one that she has been with for like 15 years, now). Have an amazing Mother’s Day weekend.

Also, this went up Monday. And I posted something over here, today.

happy friday

I have been tapped by HS to cover Nike’s NFL draft events this weekend. As a result, I will be rocking my new Fuel Band. So, I’ll let you know how that goes. Or, you can follow @highsnobiety on instagram to get some up to the minute action this evening and tomorrow. Here is a shot of my virigin dashboard below.

In addition to the draft activities this weekend, I have another race on Sunday morning. I will also be location scouting for an upcoming shoot that I’m pretty excited about. The weather is supposed to cooperate for all of the above. So, I’m kind of excited to get this weekend going. Have a good one.

happy friday

As quickly as the snow came, it was gone. Today is 60 degrees and rainy. Mother nature is schizophrenic, I tell you. I guess I am too.

After years of badmouthing all things Mac, I broke down and bought an iPh#$e last night. As much as I love Blackberry, the camera on it just sucks too much to even justify using. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not exactly in love with my new apple device. I still don’t like the touchscreen keyboard. Here are some other changes that I would make (after having used it for about 4 hours, so far):

  • Make the unlock slider half way up the screen so that my thumb doesn’t have to cramp itself when unlocking with one hand.
  • Auto power-down, power-on scheduling. I hate a buzzing phone in the middle of the night.
  • Ability to select different alerts for different mailboxes.
  • Customizable alert profiles (ie, turn off everything but the alarm clock and calendar alerts)

Maybe these are already functions that are available? I haven’t read the manual, yet. I meant to bring it on the train with me this morning, but forgot.

Anyway, I am now officially on instagram (though I have yet to post anything). In case you would like to be friends, I’m “shotbyjake.” Have a great weekend!

happy friday!

I’ll start with the bad news. I have no A-train poem to share today. I have been relatively uncreative (not that the previous poems were anything major), for the past little while. But I do feel like I’m somewhat getting my mojo back. Which brings us to the good news. Above is a nice little shot of ?uestlove, who was DJing at the party I attended last night.

For the weekend? Wellah, I plan on attending a Halloween party on Saturday night. Then running a race Sunday morning. Not sure how all of that will work out. But I’m being hopeful. Speaking of running, there are only nine short days left until the NY Marathon. I’m trying not to sweat it. I’m going to be forced to run a few times between now and then, because I just bought some new sneaks and I need to break them in before the race (or else suffer massive blisters). I retired the sneaks that I used in Chicago, by leaving them in the trash can of the hotel room. Hahaha.

Which brings me to my next topic: weather. It is supposed to snow this weekend. Not cool. I’m not a good cold weather runner. In fact, I’m not a cold weather runner at all. I stay inside and get fat during the cold weather. Fingers crossed for 50+ degree weather on November 6th. Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday!

I have been insanely busy the last few days. Which is cool. But I have not spent much time at a desk, which means I have done much photo editing or writing. I know that everyone has been very disappointed about this, hehe. Not to worry, I will have plenty of time on my hands this weekend to run through all of the stuff that I have shot this weeks, as well as recap some decent fun.

As promised a few weeks ago, I have been checking to see when the GQ article “The man who sailed his house” appeared online. When the November issue came in the mail yesterday, I figured that all of the October stuff was probably now online. I was right. Here is a link to one of my favorite magazine articles that I have read in years.

Have a great weekend!

’tis Friday

This was one of those weeks that couldn’t go by fast enough for me. I can’t say that there was a particular reason that I felt that way. But, I’m just very glad that it is now Friday. I have some big plans for the weekend, including shooting the annual Rock Steady B-boy competition. It is going to be at the Red Bull space this year. I was blown away last year, and I can’t wait to check it out again. If you are in the NYC area, you should definitely stop in and check it out.

If you are in LA, you might want to check this out: Shepard Fairey and gang have been busy on the walls of the West Hollywood library throwing up a mural. There is also work by Kenny Scharf and RETNA. My homey Matt shot some pics of the stuff going up and you can check it out over here.

No matter where you find yourself this weekend, you can enjoy this next one. If you liked the Tom Selleck waterfall sandwich blog, then this is right up your alley– Spock is not impressed. Boing Boing shared the link yesterday. Since then I have been checking it religiously, and have laughed audibly on more than one occasion while doing so.

Have a great weekend.

Happy Friday

I had myself quite a busy little night, last night. I stopped through the new location of the Hole Gallery on Bowery to see NYC graffiti legend, TAKI 183 in the flesh (and shoot his book signing for curatedmag). For fun, I put together a little animated gif above of TAKI scrawling his tag in someone’s book. I hope that it doesn’t give anyone seizures.

After the book signing, I headed across the street to the New Museum for an event with KAWS and Hennessy to celebrate the ltd. edition bottle that KAWS designed for them. ?uestlove was the DJ. It was a cool scene. Here are a couple of my favorite shots–

Above and below: ?uestlove, of The Roots.

I threw this one in just for kicks. The CK billboard hasn’t been as good, since Eva Mendez left. But I think it is funny the way that the BP and CK logos line up from this angle. Anyway, I’m a nerd.

I feel like Jakesmag has been a little bit heavier that I intended, for its first week in existence. I think it is partially a result of the fact that I have been in such a serious mood all of the time lately. I’m shooting for a bit of relaxation this weekend, so that I can tone things down a bit, if that’s ok. Have a great weekend.
