Leigh Viner recently posted on her blog this illustration that she created of Fashion Toast‘s Rumi Neely. Viner perfectly captured the facial expression that Rumi does in about 90% of the images on FT. I’m into it.

Really digging this image of Kate Moss shooting billiards in a third world country. That ponytail….

I’m a fan of most things that Tom Ford does. Additionally, I’m kind of a fiend for outerwear (esp. jackets). So, it is no real surprise that I’m so keen on this new yacht parka that is a part of Tom Ford’s S/S ’13 collection. I want the gingham one. I also wouldn’t mind having a yacht to wear it on, hehe.

My friend, and former colleague recently opened a new menswear store in SoHo. The name of the shop is Carson Street Clothiers. I had the pleasure of checking out the space a couple of weeks ago, before it was open to the public to snap a couple of shots. The space is beautiful, and the selection is fantastic. I definitely recommend stopping through.
A vid that I made for fun-
Colorado based illustrator Leigh Viner is an artist that I discovered a few years ago. I can’t remember exactly how, but I think that I happened upon her blog for some reason. Anyway, I really like her work. It is a classic minimalist style using multiple mediums, including watercolor.
Being from the mountain west, myself, I guess that I am a little bit partial to Viner. I’m impressed with her presence and fashion clientele given her location. More than that, I just find her artwork very aesthetically appealing. If you also enjoy this style of illustration, her blog is definitely worth a flip through.

How do we feel about the recent photo shoot that our newly re-elected president of the USA did with Terry Richardson? I understand the value of Obama doing the talk shows and all of that other crap that was traditionally thought to be uncouth for the commander in chief. But, Terry Richardson? It’s almost like Bam is trying to create controversy or allude to a scandalous side of his personality.
Is he trying to purposely provide fodder for the extreme right wing? Okay, you want to score points with the edgy art/fashion crowd. Really? First of all, aren’t those the people that you can already bank on to support you? They already think you are cool. Second, why not shoot with someone like Scott Schuman or any other semi-boring yet prevalent fashion photog? Better yet, why not get portraits by an photog instead, like Annie Leibovitz? Then you get edgy but artsy instead of pervy and gross.
I mean, I’m not trying to get all political. I’m also not going to opine on the artistic value of Terry Richardson’s work. I’m just saying that anyone who knows anything about Terry Richardson would think twice about associating him or herself with the guy, if they are trying to maintain a sqeaky clean public image. If W mag won’t shoot with him anymore, that says a lot, in itself. I had always heard that TR was shady, but when the Jezebel article came out, I have to say that I was a bit shocked. It made me think differently of him as a person. It also cast a bit of a shadow on all of his work, from my perspective. Would Bam let his daughters shoot with the guy?
For Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kate Moss, etc., sure. But the Prez? Idk, man. It just feels weird to me.

I saw this the other day and thought that I would pass along the info to any fashion savvy photogs who happen to read this page. Aether is holding a summer photo contest. The prize is lots of cool Aether accessories/apparel, plus a camera. Here is their description:
Topic
Anyone familiar with us knows we’ve sort of got of a thing for inspirational imagery. (If you’re not, feel free to look around our site.) Good photography has the ability to transport, whether that be to a physical location or to a particular state of mind. And with warm weather in the air we’d like to be transported to a summer state of mind, so we’re asking all of you to share your pictures of summer adventure. What is your idea of a perfect summer trip? What does summer mean to you?Submissions (June 15th thru July 15th)
We’ll be taking submissions for a little over a month, up until July 15th. Please email us your name, the title of the image, a brief description, and the picture as an attachment to journal@aetherapparel.com. Please use the subject line SUMMER PHOTO CONTEST. We will only accept one picture per person, so please only send one. Also, this should go without saying, but please only submit your own original photography. (Google has gotten really good at sifting out fraudulent work.)
See their official page about the contest here. There are still 2 weeks to enter. So get snapping!
Over the weekend Vice Mag threw a party at the East Village Standard to celebrate the new collaboration between Eric Koston and Oakley. Eric is a really cool guy and was fun to shoot with. Check out the coverage on HS for the full recap.
Aaaaannnddd, here is a photo of me in a mirror. Hahahah
I mentioned this installation on Friday, but I thought it would be requisite to share a little more. The contributing artists include: Tobias Bernstrup, Hisham Bharoocha, Etienne Charry, Brian DeGraw, Daniel Johnston, Jonas Mekas, Thurston Moore, David Shrigley, Alan Vega, Ben Vida, Liz Wendelbo.
I think that my favorite piece was this medley of vintage radios that were setup to play different parts of the same song in unison. I love art that has multiple mediums. A very cool visual and audio aesthetic.
Definitely stop through and check it out, if you have the occasion.
Yesterday a video ran on the GQ website featuring my homey William Yan. I mentioned the guy once before, over here. Anyway, I have been very pleased to see the way that he is blowing up lately. He is a really cool person, in addition to being a fantastic street style photographer. Check out the vid below:

Finally got this shoot knocked out, last night. The image above was exactly what I wanted. Nabbed another helicopter one (below) just for good measure. I have also decided not to run the BK Half tomorrow. I just don’t feel like dealing with the logistics, given all of the other items that I have going on this weekend. So, I feel like kind of a loser. But, oh well. Have a grand weekend.
This week, street style icon Tommy Ton celebrated the launch of his collaboration with Club Monaco at the CM flagship in the Flatiron district. I totally idolize this dude. I drool over basically every shot that he posts on Jak and Jil. The event was chill and a lot of my friends were there. It was a nice distraction from the complete chaos going on in my person life at the moment. Here are a few additional shots–
It has been kind of a gloomy last couple of days, around town. But I have been insanely busy, with hardly any time to notice. Despite all of that, I was able to sneak in a few quick runs during the week. Our first race of the season is actually Sunday morning. Luckily it is in our neighborhood. So, we won’t have to stand around freezing in the park forever, before it starts.
One of the things that I worked on this week, was snapping some images (above and below) of the new Rothman’s space near Union Square. It is a NYC born and bred men’s clothing store that has been around for almost a century. It is a really cool space. I just wish that the weather would have cooperated, so that we could have had better light.
Here is a quick and dirty A train poem to kick off the weekend:
Chambers, Canal– here we go. ‘E’ across the platform at West 4th, some jackass holds the doors. 14th approaches, device alerts sounding in synchronization. Penn, Times, 59th, time to zone out. 125 arrives, Harlem proper. 145th— “’D’ on the lower level” a voice shouts. 168– Columbia Hospital and the place where they shot X dead. GW Port Authority, almost theres. 181, detrain and hit the stairs.
I’m kind of freaking out that Fashion Week is already here again. It is going to be a little bit different for me this week, than it has been in the past. I can’t just duck out of the day job for the duration and shoot everything that I feel like. Nope. In fact, I will probably only be covering a handful of shows. I’m excited, just the same. I’m most looking forward to Band of Outsiders on Saturday.
As a side note, my 7D had it’s first error on Saturday night. It was the dreaded “err 30.” It is an error that happens when the shutter gets stuck open. After doing a lot of reading on Canon forums, I gave the camera a solid smack, then took the battery out, and reinstalled it. It appears to be working like normal again. Phew! I feel like it is pretty amazing that I have gone this long without having any errors. The shutter has well over 50k actuations, and I haven’t had it serviced a single time. I think that I may have to drop her off for a tune-up, once FW is out of the way.

This video was the perfect start to my Friday. The Video is by Fott, called ‘Motorcycle. Better than Breakfast.’ The title sums it up. I doubt that there are many red-blooded males out there who would choose shoveling down some oatmeal over blasting around a pre-dawn Moscow atop a cafe racer before morning rush hour. If that was my breakfast, I would eat breakfast every day. Anyway, check out the vid.
PS: My brother arrived safe and sound this morning. He also brought along his lady friend, who I was able to meet for the first time this morning. I think it is going to be a good weekend.
