I want this: Tom Ford Yacht Parka

I’m a fan of most things that Tom Ford does. Additionally, I’m kind of a fiend for outerwear (esp. jackets). So, it is no real surprise that I’m so keen on this new yacht parka that is a part of Tom Ford’s S/S ’13 collection. I want the gingham one. I also wouldn’t mind having a yacht to wear it on, hehe.

Carson Street Clothiers

My friend, and former colleague recently opened a new menswear store in SoHo. The name of the shop is Carson Street Clothiers. I had the pleasure of checking out the space a couple of weeks ago, before it was open to the public to snap a couple of shots. The space is beautiful, and the selection is fantastic. I definitely recommend stopping through.

CP24

I roped my friend Mike into modeling some jackets for a quick editorial shoot last weekend. The label is C.P. Company. These jackets are part of their CP 24 collection, and they are both pretty dope. BTW, ladies, Mike is single Brooklynite. 😉

Illustrations by Leigh Viner

Colorado based illustrator Leigh Viner is an artist that I discovered a few years ago. I can’t remember exactly how, but I think that I happened upon her blog for some reason. Anyway, I really like her work. It is a classic minimalist style using multiple mediums, including watercolor.

Being from the mountain west, myself, I guess that I am a little bit partial to Viner. I’m impressed with her presence and fashion clientele given her location. More than that, I just find her artwork very aesthetically appealing. If you also enjoy this style of illustration, her blog is definitely worth a flip through.

aether summer photo contest

I saw this the other day and thought that I would pass along the info to any fashion savvy photogs who happen to read this page. Aether is holding a summer photo contest. The prize is lots of cool Aether accessories/apparel, plus a camera. Here is their description:

Topic
Anyone familiar with us knows we’ve sort of got of a thing for inspirational imagery. (If you’re not, feel free to look around our site.) Good photography has the ability to transport, whether that be to a physical location or to a particular state of mind. And with warm weather in the air we’d like to be transported to a summer state of mind, so we’re asking all of you to share your pictures of summer adventure. What is your idea of a perfect summer trip?  What does summer mean to you?

Submissions
(June 15th thru July 15th)
We’ll be taking submissions for a little over a month, up until July 15th. Please email us your name, the title of the image, a brief description, and the picture as an attachment to journal@aetherapparel.com. Please use the subject line SUMMER PHOTO CONTEST. We will only accept one picture per person, so please only send one. Also, this should go without saying, but please only submit your own original photography. (Google has gotten really good at sifting out fraudulent work.)

See their official page about the contest here. There are still 2 weeks to enter. So get snapping!

koston x oakley

Over the weekend Vice Mag threw a party at the East Village Standard to celebrate the new collaboration between Eric Koston and Oakley. Eric is a really cool guy and was fun to shoot with. Check out the coverage on HS for the full recap.

Aaaaannnddd, here is a photo of me in a mirror. Hahahah

musique plastique @ agnes b

I mentioned this installation on Friday, but I thought it would be requisite to share a little more. The contributing artists include: Tobias Bernstrup, Hisham Bharoocha, Etienne Charry, Brian DeGraw, Daniel Johnston, Jonas Mekas, Thurston Moore, David Shrigley, Alan Vega, Ben Vida, Liz Wendelbo.

I think that my favorite piece was this medley of vintage radios that were setup to play different parts of the same song in unison. I love art that has multiple mediums. A very cool visual and audio aesthetic.

Definitely stop through and check it out, if you have the occasion.

tommy x club monaco

This week, street style icon Tommy Ton celebrated the launch of his collaboration with Club Monaco at the CM flagship in the Flatiron district. I totally idolize this dude. I drool over basically every shot that he posts on Jak and Jil. The event was chill and a lot of my friends were there. It was a nice distraction from the complete chaos going on in my person life at the moment. Here are a few additional shots–

arnette ‘dibs’

One bonus of daylight savings is that there is some daylight left after the market close in the evening. Wednesday evening I worked with the peeps from RC on a shoot for a new model of Arnette glasses. We did the shoot at the newish skate part in Chelsea. It was the first time that I had been inside since it was built. I was so bummed that I didn’t have skate shoes with me. The park is super nice. The model/athlete is Pat [something]. His instagram is @_path. One more shot below–

happy march and happy friday, also return of the a train poems

It has been kind of a gloomy last couple of days, around town. But I have been insanely busy, with hardly any time to notice. Despite all of that, I was able to sneak in a few quick runs during the week. Our first race of the season is actually Sunday morning. Luckily it is in our neighborhood. So, we won’t have to stand around freezing in the park forever, before it starts.

One of the things that I worked on this week, was snapping some images (above and below) of the new Rothman’s space near Union Square. It is a NYC born and bred men’s clothing store that has been around for almost a century. It is a really cool space. I just wish that the weather would have cooperated, so that we could have had better light.

Here is a quick and dirty A train poem to kick off the weekend:

Chambers, Canal– here we go. ‘E’ across the platform at West 4th, some jackass holds the doors. 14th approaches, device alerts sounding in synchronization. Penn, Times, 59th, time to zone out.  125 arrives, Harlem proper. 145th— “’D’ on the lower level” a voice shouts. 168– Columbia Hospital and the place where they shot X dead. GW Port Authority, almost theres. 181, detrain and hit the stairs.

giving up something i love

Okay, the title of this post is a bit dramatic when compared to the content. I mean, who writes about retiring a wallet, anyway? But for some strange reason, saying goodbye to this old boy feels like losing a part of me. I bought this wallet when I first moved to NY (when I still shopped at Guess, hahahah). It was the perfect NY wallet. It folded on the long edge of two credit card sized halves, which made it perfect for carrying in the front pocket (to deter against pickpocketing). It had card pockets on both sides, one vertically stacked with a bifurcated window (super easy to get the ID out for bouncers and TSA), and one horizontally stacked set of pockets (perfect for taking out a metrocard without having to take off your gloves). The finest feature of all, was the stainless external bill clip (below). This feature also turned out to be its downfall.

This wallet came with me to Brazil and Europe. It has spent more time on my person than probably any other non-body-part item that I own.

I noticed about a week ago, that the bills were not as tot as they usually were after closing the clip. If you look closely at the image above, you can see the hairline crack that the clip developed along its spine. I can’t just go around dropping cash all over the floor.

So, tonight I switched over to a nondescript black number by Coach. It doesn’t have nearly as much character, and is not nearly as utilitarian. RIP, my absolute favorite accessory…. ever.

hola, wednesday. stoked to see you.

At the risk of sounding melodramatic, I’m going to say that it feels like it has already been kind of a long week. I had a bit of a reprieve last night as I attended an event at the BLK Denim Store in SoHo, NYC. The space is absolutely dope (above). Not to brag about my lineage, but if it is Scandinavian, you know it’s good. I wound up with a new pair of jeans. I rarely wear jeans, so I have never been able to justify buying a new pair. All of the jeans that I owned before last night are spill over from the late 90’s/early 2000’s. They don’t really fly for going to social events. Anyway, I love my new BLKs. Here are a few more shots that I liked from last night.

happy fashion week (cont’d)

The image above is currently one of my favorites shots from this iteration of NYFW. It was back stage at a Native Son show. Normally all of the back stage stuff that you get is the same. It is generally a bunch of candid images of people getting hair and makeup done, PR people yelling at other PR people in their headsets, etc.. My favorite overheard back stage conversation so far was “OMG, Yuri got arrested! We need to do a model count right now!”

Anyway, the reason that I like the image above so much, is because this particular show was off site at Pier 59 in Chelsea. The windows from the hair/makeup area of back stage opened onto the roof. So a bunch of the more Rat Pack-like models ducked out to have a quick butt. Another shot of the smoke break, below-

..and one from the actual presentation–

Next, let’s talk about Betsey Johnson.

I really like the animation going on with these curls.

Finally, I was dying over this adorable little family sitting on the front row.

Moving along to J. Crew. It is amazing the way that their look can be so sterile, but still beautiful. Favorite two looks from the presentation–

I’m hoping to have more images from these sets up on my photo blog by this weekend.

Oh yeah, wait. One more. I really liked this one from Billy Reid.

I wish that it wouldn’t have been so dark in there. I had to have the ISO jammed all of the way at like 1200 or something. So, this image isn’t very sharp. But I still really like the moodiness.

Happy Fashion Week!

New York Fashion Week officially started today. Although, there were a few primer shows yesterday. I have been super busy shooting, already. Here are a couple of images from yesterday and today. Above– Hyden Yoo. Below–Richard Chai.

Above and below– Nicholas K.

More to come.

Digi-camo shoot part 2

Lots of “part 2″s today. This is the piece that I was intending to shoot in DC over the weekend. Since that whole plan was fouled up by the weather. Sam was a good enough sport to step in and rock this messenger bag for me. The lighting was surprisingly good for post-hurricane overcast conditions. I thought about warming the images up a bit, but ultimately I liked them how they were shot. A couple more looks–
