happy friday

I can’t believe that this is the last weekend in July. This summer has gone by waaaaaayyyyy too quickly. I had a relatively productive week. I only missed one run (because of rain), and I think that I may be able to make it up tonight. Unlikely though, being that it is Friday. Hahaha. I included a couple of Photos from Wednesday eve. Seize sur Vignt had a party to preview their lineup for next spring/summer. My favorite image of the evening is actually the one above. I loved this nameless party guest’s hair. It is like, the picture perfect quintessential bob. She has awesome color, too. Anyway, a couple of images of the actually SSV clothing below. More over here.

One of my close friends moved back to NYC from Florence, this week. Getting stoked to hangout together this weekend. Other than that, hoping to keep it mellow and knock out some running. Have a great weekend!

weekend recap

There weren’t many bloggable events that occurred over the last weekend. I have been in a bit of a slump. I think that maybe part of it is the lack of exercise catching up to me from the protracted period of being sick, and having rain every day. It is a vicious cycle. The less I workout, the harder it is to get motivated to workout, the deeper in the slump I fall.

Anyway, I had kind of exhausted all excuses not to run, by the time Sunday afternoon rolled around, and decided to pick back up with my training. I looked at the wrong week on my chart and ended up running 13 miles when I was only slated to do 8. I’m not upset about it. I was able to get some sun. I let my mind wander. It would have been a lot more enjoyable if I didn’t have so many heavy topics on my brain right now. But it was still a really good run.

Sunday evening I attended a get-together in the Yard at the SoHo Grand. It was a kickoff event for one of the men’s fashion trade shows that is happening this week. I snapped a couple of quick iPhone images (keeping it gritty), which are basically the only shots I took all weekend. The photo at the top is a video presentation that Lacoste had looping at the party. The image below is Trixie tied up outside of the SG, with two girls smoking in the background. Hoping for a good week.

happy friday

Not really a happy Friday at all, actually. It is dreary out. The weather, coupled with the news of the tragedy in Aurora CO last night has cast quite a gloomy shroud over this Friday. It’s days like this where you just kinda have to be grateful for those who are close to you. I thought it was appropriate to post  an image of my favorite Steve Powers (ESPO) prints, above. The sentiment there just kinda sums things up sometimes.

weekend recap

The past weekend ended up being a bust for the most part. I started feeling a cold coming on Friday night. By Saturday morning I could barely breathe. The only productive thing that I did all weekend was snapping some test shots (above) with my friend Bridget who was in town from California. I slept basically all day on Sunday and did zero running. I am feeling a bit better this morning. I ended up riding my bike to work. But I don’t want to press my luck. So I’m going to hold off with the running until at least Wed. One more shot from the weeekend–

happy friday

Oh, man. It has been a rough week. I’m still getting over the lag from last week. It doesn’t help that I have had something scheduled every night this week. Last night I shot a party at the Burton store in SoHo. It is closing for renovation, so they were trying to dump inventory. It was a good time, except for the fact that I am also starting to come down with a cold or something. So, I was sneezing my face off. I’m hoping that it is short-lived and that I can feel snappy again tomorrow morning, especially since I have a race in CP. A couple more images from last night–

Have a great weekend!

weekend recap

I’m a bit lagged and still winding down from the trip to AK. There was so much to look at up there. I’m not sure if I will ever make it through everything that I shot. These images are from a sort-of buoy boneyard. I loved the way that they were just stacked on the side of the road.

Anyway, I flew all day Saturday and lost 4 hours. Sunday, I was able to unpack and squeeze in a bike ride (in which my friend wrecked very hard and messed up his bike). It is definitely going to take me a little bit of time to settle back into reality.

Have a great week!

it rains a lot here

I successfully survived my first full day in AK. It was pouring rain on and off, Sunday. That didn’t stop us from getting out on a hike to Ward Lake, among other activities. Today, we are off to Misty Fjords, in a float plane, which by the way are ubiquitous here. I snapped the one below from my sister’s living room. I’m getting pretty excited about it.

Here are a couple more snaps from the hike.

i was awake for 23 hours

Yesterday morning, I voyaged from sea to shining sea. My journey stared in the lovely Pennsylvania Station, NY. Since I was there at 4:30 AM, I had the pleasure of sharing the NJ Transit train to EWR with all of the club kids on their way home after a wild night out in the big city, hahah. It was less than enjoyable. Fourteen hours later, I was lounging on my sister’s couch watching the bald eagles fly around outside of her living room window.

We didn’t waste any time getting the party started. We went on a couple of hikes. My little nieces Maya and Sophie are fantastic hikers (above: Maya and Sophie discovering America). They weren’t afraid to break out an occasional parkour move between rocks or over a log.

Don’t forget the bears and eagles. I was greeted by both as I exited the airplane concourse. They are literally everywhere over here.

It is a lot more challenging that I had supposed, to shoot here. Since it rains so much, the light is very subdued. This means that I find myself shooting with the aperture wide open and often w/a shutter speed of slower than 1/200 (because I refuse to shoot any higher than 400 iso [noise]). Makes it tough to get a sharp image hand-held at 200mm. The low light and constant drizzle also throws off the AF quite a bit. I’m sure that I will get it figured out eventually.

Blogging w/my phone right now out of boredom. This is after I have already gone on a instagram binge and eaten two tacos. Only 2 hours left in this layover. Weighing the options: uncomfortable nap v. more magazines.

happy friday

Or should I say “stressful Friday.” I have so much to get done today before I jam to Alaska. I’m not going to bore anyone by putting a list on here. But trust me, it is a lot.

I’m so excited to see my sister and her fam in Alaska. It has been way too long. It will also be a very nice opportunity to have a protracted break from the grind.

Have a great weekend!

weekend throwaways

I was super busy shooting earlier this weekend. It’s funny how often I find that as I’m flipping through a set of images, that I end up liking a certain aesthetic images that I won’t be able to use for anything. I generally refer to those images as throwaways. Most of the time I just muse over them for a couple of minutes in lightroom, then don’t even bother exporting them. Today I decided to pick a handful of throwaways from Friday and post ’em up.

Above: sunset on Friday eve. Below: roof of the EV Standard.

Above: Cooper Square from above. Below: some diehard who was shooting for Vice.

happy friday

It is bloody hot in NY, these days. Hot trash, ground level ozone, and all of the other nasty things that comewith durrrdy summer have arrived in force this week. Pretty amped to do as little as possible this weekend. Tonight however, I will be hitting a party to launch the Koston collab with Oakely, as well as a soiree at the Bowery. They should both be good times as long as no one melts.

This time next week I will be packing for Alaska. I’m getting very excited to visit my sister and her family. When I return, it will already be time to start training my fall marathon. Ughhh. I can’t believe that June is already practically over. I’m hoping to milk this summer for all that it is worth.

Fav photo of trixie in action (so far):

I snapped it on the way to work on Wed. Have a great weekend.

happy friday

Trixie (my bike) has been in the shop since last Friday, getting shod with some new rims. I was perpetually bending the rear rim (including one pinch flat, where I had to replace the tire) anytime that I would ride over any small deviation in surface smoothness. It was getting kind of ridiculous. So, I finally broke down and ordered a set of high profile (hipster) rims. I picked her up yesterday right after leaving the office and ended up riding everywhere I went yesterday evening (which was kind of a lot of places). First I hit the latest installation at the SoHo AgnĂ©s b. That is where I snapped the photo above (on Howard St.). Not really sure why I didn’t just bust out the real cam for that shot, being that it was slung over my back. So, you getz iPhone image. Sorry.

After Agnés, I went to the WV for a Nike release party. Obama was in town yesterday, and his motorcade actually passed right in front of the spot where the event was being held. So, getting around was like a video game of weaving in and out of cars/cops. It was actually kinda fun.

Tomorrow, I’m off to MD, bright and early to shoot some moto-x with Redbull. Sunday morning I’ll be running the Portugal day race in CP. Should be a banger. Have a great weekend.

weekend recap

Despite getting off to a bit of a rough start (missed my connection and had to spend the night in DC), the weekend was a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun and was able to get some sun.It is tough to come back and get straight back into the grind.

happy friday

I received a copy of the latest issue of L’equipe Sport & Style in the mail yesterday. It is a French mag that did a story on KAWS this month. They approached me last month about using the photo below. It is one that I snapped at the Aldrich museum in Connecticut during the exhibits opening soiree.

About to rock a morning run before packing for Charleston. I’m pretty amped about this trip. It sounds like my homeys down there have plenty o’ good lined up for us to do. Sangue bom, those two. Have a great weekend!

weekend recap

Despite the rainy forecast, the weather was actually quite lovely over the weekend (never mind that the rain has resumed again today). As a result, I probably put about 50 or 60 miles on the bicycle odometer. I think that my favorite ride of the weekend was Saturday evening, when I rode uptown on the Hudson greenway, almost to the northern edge of the island. I brought my camera with me to snap a few sunset shots from Riverside Park. They came out pretty cool. But, my favorite shot from the evening was the one above. I snapped it near the 70th St. pier on my way back downtown. Isn’t it cute the way that birds stand on one leg (even little songbirds). That shot was with a 50mm, btw. The bird let me get right up near it. I think that the birds here become very accustomed to people being in their space and tend to drop their guard a bit as a result.

Anyway, it was nice to have a mellow weekend before the very busy week that I have lined up, starting today. I’m going to be shooting some stuff this week that I’m kind of excited about, including some tattoo work. Happy Monday.

happy friday

I rode past this dude fishing off of the BPC esplanade, on my way into work this morning. I had to stop and get a shot of that striped bass that he had just landed. It looks like it is probably a 10 pounder. I felt bad for him though, because as he was wrestling the hook out of the fish’s mouth, he knocked one of his poles into the Hudson. So, in the shot above he is actually cursing and attempting to snag his other pole with the gaffe. Poor guy. I hope that he was able to find it.

Speaking of the esplanade, the Wall St. 3 mile race was last night. The finish line was about a half mile south of where I snapped the shot above. It was a lot of fun. A few of my friends from the running club were there, as well as some friends that I used to work with. We all met up before and after the race. The race itself was as crazy as usual. But I have to say weather-wise it was probably the most pleasant iteration that I have seen, to date. I think that I ended up with a 19:30ish. But the official results still weren’t up when I started writing this.

For the weekend: mellow mixed with mellow is what I’m hoping for. Next weekend I’ll be off to Charleston. Enjoy the weekend!

sunset seq

This nutty Memorial Day weekend weather had produced some pretty stellar sunsets. Here is a sequence I snapped from my bedroom on Saturday night.

happy friday

Amped for the long weekend. Stopped by Fafi’s book signing this week on Bowery. It was good to get out (despite the rain) and see my peeps. One of my fav’s below: Ricky Powell doing the over-the-glasses “how you doin’?”

I also ventured out last night to celebrate with my friends who recently started this page.

Plans for the weekend include:

-Fix Bike

-Run

Hopefully I can squeeze everything in.

happy friday

Finally got this shoot knocked out, last night. The image above was exactly what I wanted. Nabbed another helicopter one (below) just for good measure. I have also decided not to run the BK Half tomorrow. I just don’t feel like dealing with the logistics, given all of the other items that I have going on this weekend. So, I feel like kind of a loser. But, oh well. Have a grand weekend.
